The replica of the Gold Cup was awarded to the winner of the oldest motor sports’
trophy in the world. My family received a replica in 1955 when Lee Schoenith won the
Gold Cup.  The moderately heavy piece is made of gold anodized iron with a wood
base. This family treasure was passed down after Lee's death. Lee's boat, the Gale
V, was the first unlimited hydroplane to average 100 mph in the 1955 Gold Cup
regatta. In addition, the 1955 Gold Cup began the famous rivalry between Seattle
and Detroit. Lee won three consecutive National Championships, 53, 54, and 55.
